Sleaford and North Hykeham MP Stephen Phillips has stepped down
Theresa May's Government has been left shocked this afternoon with news of the resignation of Lincolnshire MP Stephen Phillips.
He's resigned, citing "irreconcilable policy differences" with the government.
It's thought the Sleaford and North Hykeham MP didn't agree with the prime minister's decision to challenge yesterday's High Court ruling that Parliament must get a vote on when to start the process of leaving the EU.
Mr Phillips backed the leave campaign but last month told Lincs FM he had concerns about the possibility of not being in the single market.
Meanwhiile, Ukip leadership candidate Suzanne Evans has revealed she'd like to replace Mr Phillips in the constituency.
No date has yet been been set for the by-election.
