Man arrested by armed police at University of Lincoln was wanted for armed burglary

A man arrested by armed police at the University of Lincoln earlier was wanted in connection with a burglary in which a man was attacked with a pickaxe.

The 25 year old was surrounded by officers and forced to the ground - the University says he wasn't a student, and wasn't connected with the University in any way.

Students and staff were told to stay inside the library for their own safety, although the man did not have a weapon and didn't try to access any of the uni buildings.

Lincolnshire Police have said they're not looking for anyone else - they made the arrest on behalf of officers in Nottinghamshire.

Its after two people wearing face coverings forced their way into a house in Norfolk Street, Worksop, earlier this month - before one of them hit the victim in the head with the pickaxe.

It’s believed the other suspect was armed with a shotgun.

The victim was taken to hospital with head injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening.

A man and a woman, both from London, have already appeared in court in connection with the incident.
