Grantham man given suspended sentence for sexual comments made online

Martyn Smith thought he was messaging a 14 year girl but it turned out to be an undercover police officer

A Grantham grandfather, who posed as a teenager online, making sexual comments to someone he thought was a 14 year old girl has been placed on the sex offenders' register.

Martyn Smith went on a teen chat forum, and messaged an account which was being operated by an undercover police officer.

The 56 year old, of Troon Close, claimed to be 19 years old - as his messages became increasingly sexualised.

He went on to make comments about the fictional girls body shape, describing her as 'sexy'  before explaining, in explicit detail, a sex act.

At Lincoln Crown Court, Smith was handed an eight month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months and given a sexual harm prevention order.
