Hopes of promotion for Gainsborough Trinity were ended with a single goal at the Northolme yesterday.

Nuneaton took the lead in the first half, ending the Blues hopes of a rise to the Blue Square Premier.

Despite a fight back from Trinity in front of a sell out crowd it wasn't their day.

The Lincoln Ladies overcame the Arsenal Ladies for the first time in their history yesterday.

A last minute goal from Megan Harris bagged the victory for the Lady Imps in their second Continental Cup game of the season.

The match finished 4-3.

Scunthorpe United were forced to take a share of the points after they drew 1-1 with Bournemouth in League 1, Gary Thompson got the equaliser for the Iron deep in the second half.

In the Conference Lincoln City ended their season with a 3-1 win over Ebbsfleet and Grimsby Town lost 1- 0 to Southport.

Boston United's campaign ended in a six goal thriller which finished 3-3 with Guisely.

The 18-point win saw the Scorpions take all three League Cup points on offer and move back into second place in the northern section of the competition.

While the final score suggests a resounding home win, the Scorpions were given a tough battle in the opening two-thirds of the meeting, and the scores stood level at 27-27 after nine races.

After that, though, it was all one-way traffic, as the home side registered three 5-1s and three 4-2s in the closing stages of proceedings.

Dane Thomas Jørgensen was in the thick of the action all evening, scoring several of his points from behind, and ended up on a 10 paid 12 score.  Meanwhile, Josh Auty won Heats 13 & 15 and finished on an 11-point tally.

A very pleasing aspect of the match was the 9 points scored by recent signing Jerran Hart.  Buoyed by his performances in an amateur meeting at Scunthorpe on Sunday and at the British Under-21 Final at Wolverhampton on Tuesday, Hart stormed to three wins, defeating Bears’ heat leaders Ulrich Ostergaard and Matej Kus in the process.

However, the Scorpions showed good all-round strength, with all seven riders contributing to the cause.

Grantham Town have officially been handed the champions trophy, at the end of a victorious season in the Evostick First Division

They are now promoted to the Northern Premier League, having gained the title a fortnight ago.

The season ended with a 2-1 win over Ilkeston on Saturday, the winner coming in injury time.

Elsewhere in the league, Brigg ended their season with a 3-0 win over Market Drayton, Lincoln United lost 3-0 at Newcastle Town while Stamford beat Rainworth 2-1.

In the Conference, it was a goalless draw for Grimsby at Telford.

Lincoln City meanwhile lost 1-0 to Hayes, Piero Mingoia getting the goal in the 60th minute.

Boston United lost 4-1 to Conference North champions Hyde.

It was Jason Lee's first solo game in charge of the Pilgrims.

Gainsborough Trinity managed a 2-2 draw with Worcester.

In League 1, it was a disappointing last minute defeat for Scunthorpe United at Huddersfield.

The Iron lost 1-0 thanks Lee Novacks goal in the closing minutes of the game.

They picked up all 3 points yesterday at Bristol Academy.

A goal from Carla Cantrell gave the Lady Imps their first win of the new season and took them to the top of the league.

Lincoln City aren't hoping for a repeat of this season next time around but one thing will be staying the same - the manager.

David Holdsworth is staying at the club - he's been in talks this week.

No contracts been signed yet, but he's confirmed he will be sticking around.

In the Conference North it was a win for Gainsborough Trinity, beating Blyth Spartans 3-2.

They've taken the title thanks to a 1-0 win over Quorn.

In form Scunthorpe United have taken their unbeaten run to nine league games after they beat relegation-threatened Exeter.

Jon Parkin came off the bench to score in the 74th, bagging all three points for the Iron.

The result leaves Scunthorpe 14th in the League 1 table.

Scunthorpe United have extended their unbeaten run to 8, with a 4-0 victory at Chesterfield.

The Iron responded to going a goal down with an equaliser from Jordan Robertson.

The Imps have beaten Newport 2-0, Mark McCammon's header from a John Nutter corner put them infront 25 minutes in, Nutter himself then got the second, eight minutes later.

Grimsby Town, meanwhile, came from behind to gain a point in a 1-1 draw at Luton.

Andre Gray, making his debut for Luton, put them in front in the 60th Kiernan Hughes-Mason got the equaliser for the Mariners three minutes from time.

Lincoln swimmer Lizzie Simmonds has qualified for the Olympics.

The disappointment of missing out in the one hundreds metres backstroke earlier this week is now forgotten.

Last night she powered her way to victory meaning she'll join fellow county swimmers Sophie Allen and Kate Haywood in the Olympics.   

 Simmonds is now the fastest in the world over two hundred metres metres backstroke this year and won her seventh national title at the British Gas Swimming Championships in London.

She secured her place in the women's 200 metres individual medley at the British Swimming Championships last night.

Sophie joins fellow Lincolnshire competitor Kate Haywood who booked her place into the women's 100m breaststroke on Monday night.

In league one Scunthorpe United beat Oldham 2-1 last night.

The Iron took the lead well into the second half thanks to David Mirfin but the hosts levelled things up five minutes later and Garry Thompson bagged the winner for the visitors ten minutes from time.

Both sides finished with ten men with Keanu Marsh-Brown and Josh Walker sent off.

In the Blue Square premier, Grimsby Town couldn't bring an end to Fleetwood's unbeaten run after going down 2-1 to the league leaders.

Liam Hearn gave the visitors an early lead in the nineteenthscoring his 26th goal for the Mariners this season.

But a penalty from Andy Mangan and a goal from Jamie Vardy right at the end meant the hosts claimed all three points.

And Grantham Town have won the Lincolnshire Senior Shield- beating Boston United 2-0 at the Meres Stadium.

Lincoln City's Manager is looking forward to taking on his former side, Mansfield at Field Mill today.

Imps Manager David Houldsworth hasn't been back since his departure 18 months ago.

He knows they'll go into the game as the under dogs but says his players have the ability to steal the points.

A 10 man Iron squad couldn't hold on to the lead, after the sending off of Sam Togwell in the first half.

It ends their record of not being beaten by the Blades since 1983.

And leaves the Iron fourth from bottom of League One.

The defender missed training on Monday after suffering the knock during Saturday's draw with Brentford.

After a Grimsby Town striker was found guilty of improper conduct- one of the clubs managers has criticised the FA's handling of the incident.

Anthony Elding's been fined and handed a 2 match ban- including tomorrow's FA Trophy tie against York.

It's alleged he made improper gestures to visiting Lincoln City fans during their New Years Day clash, something Elding's continued to deny.

Gainsborough Trinity secured their play off place away last night at Borough Park with a 2-0 victory.

Grimsby Town's winning ways continued after they came away from Southport 2-1 winners last night.

Leading conference stirker Liam Hearn scored for the Mariners late on to ensure the visitors took all three points.

It puts Grimsby just below the play off places in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

Grimsby Town have made it to the quarter finals of the FA Trophy after beating Bath City 2-1.

The hosts took the lead in the first half before Anthony Elding sured things up for the Mariners in the 53rd.

With Rob Duffy scoring the winner ten minutes from time.

Grimsby will face either York City or Ebbsfleet at Blundell Park in the quarter finals.

Boston United suffered a late defeat to Welsh side, Colwyn Bay in the Blue Square Bet North.

The Pilgrims took the lead twice before the Seagulls sealed all three points late on, the game finishing 3-2.
