17th March

Grimsby Town lost 3-1 at local rivals Lincoln City.

The Mariners' consultation goal came from Ben Davies with a penalty.  

The defeat means the Mariners are in real dangers of dropping out of the football league.

They now stand just one place about the relegation zone.

10th March

It was a share of the points for Grimsby Town yesterday but Michael Jolley’s first game in charge at Blundell Park has been marred by fighting between the fans.

Trouble flared before the game and then again just before full-time, halting the match for a number of minutes.

On the pitch, Port Vale went in front 10 minutes in, through David Worrall.  James Berrett got the equaliser for Town a minute into added time.

James McKeown can take some the credit too – for the second game in a row he saved a penalty, that could have given the visitors a 2-nil lead.

5th March

The new manager of Grimsby Town says he wants to 'rebuild' and change the mentality of the players.

The Mariners have yet to win in 2018 -  new boss Michael Jolley has been speaking to the press for the first time since his appointment on Friday. 

Its his first full managerial role in English Football - having previously been in charge or Burnley's Under 23s and Swedish Club AFC Eskilstuna.

He's defended his lack of management experience, saying that he has 13 years of experience in football at various levels.

He says its a 'genuine honour' to take over the top job and has promised to get 'stuck in' to the role.

3rd March

It wasn't a great afternoon for the Mariners who traveled to Carlisle.

New manager Michael Jolley takes over Grimsby Town on Monday, his arrival can't come soon enough after yet another defeat, losing 2-nil.

25th February:

There’s still no win for Grimsby Town after a 1-nil defeat to ten-man Exeter City at Blundell Park yesterday.

Jayden Stockley scored the only goal of the game, a penalty in the 37th. JJ Hooper then missed a penalty for Town just one minute later. 

Kane Wilson was sent off for the visitors but Grimsby failed to take advantage. They’re now 20th in the table and just one point above two of the teams below them.

24th February:

Grimsby Town's caretaker boss wants to make Blundell Park a fortress.

The Mariners host Exeter City and Paul Wilkinson is hoping for a home-turf advantage.

23rd February:

Macclesfield Town are discussing an improved contract with boss John Askey after speculation linking him with the vacant manager's job with the Mariners. 

Askey has been the subject of rumours he could move to Blundell Park due to his success on guiding his side to the top of the National League.

Yesterday the Mariners issued a statement saying the board had made no formal job offer to anyone so far and interviews are continuing this week.

21st February:

The Mariners say it's unlikely they'll be appointing a new manager this week, amid speculation over who could get the top job.

The club has today stated despite speculation no-one has formally been offered the position yet following Russell Slade's sacking last week.

It plans to continue interviews over the next few days.

Paul Wilkinson remains in temporary charge of team affairs.

17th February

Grimsby Town  have now gone 13 games without a win after going down 3-1 at Cambridge yesterday.

Paul Wilkinson's spell in temporary didn't get off to the start he was hoping for after stepping up following Russell Slade's departure.

JJ Hooper got Town's goal with a penalty. 

15th February:

Grimsby Town caretaker boss Paul Wilkinson has played down speculation that he didn't get along with former manager Russell Slade.

At a press conference ahead of this weekend's trip to Cambridge he called the rumours 'completely untrue' saying he was 'gutted' when Slade was sacked on Sunday.

He's urged fans to get behind town, saying its time to 'look forward'.

13th February:

As the Mariners look for a new manager the board is urging fans to get behind the team.

They decided to call time on Slade's second spell as boss after a run of 12 games without a win.

His assistant Paul Wilkinson is in temporary charge.

The board wants supporters to give the team their full backing after making the change many of them had called for.

12th February:

The search is on for a new Manager of Grimsby Town.

Russell Slade was sacked yesterday afternoon after his squad lost 3- nil at Crawley - their 12th game in a row without a win.

Assistant Paul Wilkinson is in temporary charge, their next match is away to Cambridge at the weekend.

11th February:

The agony goes on for Grimsby Town as they were beaten 3 nil at Crawley to make it 12 games without a win.

The Mariners conceded a penalty just before half time which Crawley converted.

Two more goals in the second half meant the 242 travelling fans had to make the long journey home very disappointed.

7th February:

Grimsby Town striker Akwasi Asante has left the club by mutual consent

He's moving onto another club with immediate effect, according to the Mariners.

He joined Town in January last year, but has been limited by injury. Most recently he joined Solihull Moors on loan - making 11 appearances.

6th February:

Grimsby Town defender Danny Collins is to face two weeks out after suffering concussion against Cheltenham at the weekend.

He was taken off the pitch on Saturday after colliding with another player.

He'll have to sit the next few games out, before being eased back into playing in the next few weeks.

4th February:

Grimsby Town were forced to share the points in a 1-all draw with Cheltenham - which has done little to appease angry fans.

Many protested outside the stadium just before kick-off demanding Russell Slade be sacked as manager and John Fenty resign as Chairman.

The game started well for Town, with Simeon Jackson scoring with his first touch in a Grimsby shirt, in the 4th minute. 

Cheltenham equalised though, with a William Boyle header late-on.

It’s now 11 games without a win for the Mariners.

30th January

Towns poor run has gone from bad to worse.

Last night they lost 3-0 at Russell Slades old club Yeovil with former Town player Rhys Browne among those scoring.

Grimsby also ended the game with just nine men, after Mitch Rose was red-carded in just the 6th minute, with Karleigh Osbourne sent off in the 60th!

28th January:

The Mariners failed to take advantage of a ten man Luton at Blundell Park yesterday – the game ended in a 1-nil defeat.

That’s despite Jordon Cook being sent off for the League Leaders in just the 33rd minute. That didn’t, though, stop the visitors scoring, through James Collins, just after the break.

Town are now 17th in the table.

27th January:

There's a tough game for Grimsby Town who welcome top of the table Luton to Blundell Park.

New loan signing Mallik Wilks could feature after the striker agreed to join the Mariners until the end of the season yesterday from Leeds.

20th January

Grimsby Town Boss Russell Slade says he's feeling confident after a 1-1 draw against Colchester.

Charles Vernam scored his first professional goal for the Mariners.

17th January

Grimsby Town have been successful in their appeal against a red card handed to striker Jamille Matt on Saturday.

The Mariners appealed after he was sent off in the 89th minute for a challenge.

After an appeal to the FA the incident has been deemed a wrongful dismissal - Matt will now be eligable for Saturday's away fixture at Colchester.

16th January

Akwasi Asanti has returned to the Grimsby Town squad, after a loan spell at Solihull Moors.

The striker has made 11 appearance for the struggling West Midlands side since October.

13th January

It proved frustrating for Russell Slade at Blundell Park, as Grimsby went down 2-1 to Newport County. 

Grimsby’s Jamille Matt pulled one goal back late on but was then sent off, after the referee judged he’d deliberately elbowed a Newport player. 

He’s now likely to miss the next three games as a result.

10th January

Grimsby Town's board of directors have re-iterated their support for boss Russell Slade.

Yesterday they responded to criticism he should be sacked after a run of poor form.

They say they club need stability and are asking fans to get behind Slade and Wilkinson.

7th January

The pressure’s on for the Mariners management team after another defeat, this time going down 2-nil to Morecambe.

Kevin Ellison’s early header and Steven Old’s goal just before half-time gave the visitors the win. Town have dropped a place to 15th in the table.

5th January

Grimsby Town have secured the services of Sheffield Wednesday goalie Jake Kean on loan until the end of the season.

The 26 year old started his career at Derby County, before signing for Blackburn Rovers. He's also had spells with Norwich City and Mansfield Town.

He'll allow the Mariners an extra option in goal, with James McKeown currently sidelined through injury. Kean could debut against Morecombe tomorrow.

2nd January

Grimsby Town have chalked up their second loss in a row.

The Mariners lost 2-nil at Crewe Alexandra.

1st January

Grimsby Town will be hoping to turn their fortunes around at Crewe this afternoon.

Manager Russell Slade admits they weren't good enough after being defeated by Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

But he's still got faith they can turn things around

30th December

It’s not the end of 2017 the Mariners would have hoped for.  They stay mid-table, losing 3-nil to Accrington Stanley yesterday. All three goals came in the second half. Billy Kee scored first from a penalty kick, with Sean McConville and Kayden Jackson also getting on the score sheet.

26th December

It was a share of the points for the Grimsby Town with a 1-1 draw against Mansfield at Blundell Park yesterday.

James McKeown, who limped off on 33 minutes with a suspected groin strain, is set to have a scan in the next couple of days.

23rd December:

Grimsby Town's recent unbeaten run came to an end yesterday after they lost 2 nil at top of the table Luton.

Manager Russell Slade admitted his side made defensive mistakes but thought there were periods of the game where his side competed well.  

16th December

Grimsby Town got a share of the points in a nil -nil draw against Notts County at Meadow Lane.

It means they've extended their unbeaten run in League Two to 4 games.

25th November:

Grimsby chalked up their second win in a week with a 2 nil victory at Barnet.

Jamile Matt scored after just 5 minutes.

In the second half their opponents were reduced to ten men after a poor challenge.

Town took advantage on 76 minutes with Sam Jones netting the second.

Manager Russell Slade was delighted their recent goal drought seems to be over after scoring 5 in a week.

22nd November

Grimsby Town pulled off a dramatic comeback to win 3 - 2 against Swindon Town last night.

The Mariners were 2 - 1 down at half time, before an equalizer in the 71st minute from Siriki Dembele and a late winning goal from Mitch Rose.

Meanwhile, Dembele has won the Football League's Young Player of the Month award for October.

The 21 year old had made a number of impressive appearances for The Mariners over the past month.

21st November

Grimsby Town welcome Swindon to Blundell Park.

Its hoped Martyn Woolford will have recovered from the illness that forced him to miss Saturdays 1-nil defeat to Carlisle.

20th November

Mariners boss Russell Slade says the team have more work to do to create chances at the goal, ahead of tomorrow's game against Swindon. 

The side lost for a second game in a row conceding just 1 goal to Carlisle United at Blundell Park over the weekend.

Despite a number of shots on goal Town couldn't break the Carlisle defence - The Mariners have scored just 1 goal so far this month.

11th November

It wasn’t to be for League Two rivals Grimsby Town though, they lost 2-nil at Exeter.

8th November:

Siriki Dembele will miss out on Grimsby Town's Checktrade Trophy clash later against Sunderland.

He strained his hamstring during Saturday's match. Both Mitch Rose and Jamille Matt are likely to play a part... while Sam Kelly might make a return if fit. 

Manager Russell Slade says The Black Cats' under-23 side promises an interesting challenge.

Whatever the result, Town won't have enough points to progress to the next round.

4th November:

Grimsby Town are out of the FA Cup after just one game after they lost 1-nil at Plymouth.

Graham Carey scored the only goal of the game nine minutes in denying the Mariners the chance to make the second round draw.

29th October:

Grimsby Town drew 0-0 against Cambridge.

This makes it the third successive goalless home draw for the Mariners.

22nd October:

Grimsby Town were held to a goal-less draw at a blustery Morecambe.

21st October:

Grimsby Town will be hoping to keep up momentum this weekend, as they aim for a for a third back-to-back away win against Morecombe.

Paul Dixon is in doubt after coming off during Tuesday's game, while Mitch Rose didn't travel to Cheltenham after picking up an injury during training.

Jamie Osborne is also likely out, due to a sickness bug.

19th October:

Grimsby Town's newest recruit, Reese Hall-Johnson is going straight out on loan to Chester.

Manager Russell Slade is keen for the 22 year old to get some minutes under his belt.

He's joining former Mariners manager Marcus Bignot at the National League side.

18th October:

The Mariners beat Cheltenham 3-2 in last night's away match.

It was thanks to 2 goals from Siriki Dembele and one more from Danny Collins.

Town next face the long trip to Morecambe at the weekend.

15th October:

It proved a disappointing afternoon for Grimsby Town and their fans.

It was a goalless draw for them against Crawley.

14th October:

Grimsby Town are hosting Crawley.

Sean McAllister and James Osborne are still out on injury with long term problems. Akwasi Asante is also still recovering from injury.

The only fresh concern is Scott Vernon who's had a sickness bug this week.

7th October:

Grimsby Town came from behind to beat Port Vale 2-1 on the road yesterday in their League two encounter.

Tom Pope put the home side infront just before the break.  Sam Jones headed home the equaliser in the second half, with Siriki Demele getting the winner a short time later.

6th October

Grimsby Town start their journey towards Port Vale later.

They're hoping to pick up some momentum after losing to Scunthorpe United in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday.

Luke Summerfield and Nathan Clarke remain doubts for the Mariners.

4th October

Scunthorpe United came out on top against The Mariners in the Checkatrade Trophy last night - winning 2 - 1.

They've sealed their place in the next round thanks to a Tom Hopper double - Diallang Jaiyasimi got the goals for an almost entirely changed Town squad.

There's better new on the injuries front, as Akwasi Asante will make a return today in a reserves match against Rotherham United.

26th September

Grimsby Town will be looking to bounce back quickly when they play Colchester at Blundell Park soon.

The Mariners lost at the weekend.

24th September

The Mariners fell victim to former striker Padraig Amond yesterday in a 1 - nil defeat against Newport County.

The Irishman broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute after he found space in the box.

There was only one change for Town - with Mitch Rose returning from injury.

23rd September

There'll be a familiar face for the Mariners when play Newport later.

Ex-Town player Padraig Amond is at the Welsh side now.

17th September

Grimsby Town beat Yeovil 2-1 - keeping up their winning streak.

The Mariners' goals came from Danny Collins and Scott Vernon.

Manager Russell Slade says they deserved the win.

16th September

The Mariners will be hoping they can keep up their momentum when they play Yeovil later.

It's at Blundell Park.

Town beat Accrington Stanley midweek - and think it could be a chance to build up a good form early on in the season.

9th September

Grimsby Town boss Russell Slade knows his team have work to do after his team slumped to their fourth league defeat of the season at Mansfield.

The Mariners lost 4-1.

They conceded a penalty just before half time which was converted by the Stags, 3 more goals saw Mansfield seal the game.

The Mariners managed a late consolation with Sam Jones the man on target from the penalty spot.

3rd September

It was a good win for Grimsby yesterday.

The Mariners beat Crewe 1-0 with Mitch Rose heading home the winner.

2nd September

Grimsby Town could hand debuts to new on loan striker Jamille Matt and deadline day signing Martyn Woolford... they both joined the club this week.

The Mariners take on Crewe this afternoon.

26th August

It's defeat for Grimsby Town and a 5th game in a row that they have had a player sent off.

Danny Collins was the man to get the red card this time, in their 3-2 defeat to Wycombe.  Mitch Rose and JJ Hooper got the goals for Grimsby.

22nd August:

Grimsby Town have been knocked put of the League cup after suffering a one nil home defeat at the hands of Championship Derby.

It was the second time they'd played after the first game was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch.

A penalty was the difference between the two sides.

Once again Town had a player sent off when Ben Davies got his marching orders for a second yellow card.

Manager Russell Slade said the result was disappointing but there were many positives to take from containing a championship side to a one nil result especially with only 10 men.

22nd August:

The Mariners have denied they agreed to search procedures at Stevenage which led to complaints from fans.

Supporters say some females were asked to show their bras in full view of men whilst children were searched.

The club has denied Stevenage claims the procedures were discussed between the 2 and agreed due to the risk of prohibited items getting into the ground.

Town says it was not to blame and will be raising the issue formally with Stevenage tomorrow.  

The Football League have pledged to investigate.


The Mariners are back in action in the League Cup later.

They host Derby County at home in a rescheduled First Round fixture

It's after they had their third consecutive league game where a player was sent off in their 3-1 defeat to Stevenage at the weekend.

12th August:

The Mariners started their new season with a win last Saturday. This time they're at home to Coventry.

Their two new players could make their debut this afternoon.

8th August:

Grimsby Town are hoping to cause an upset when they host Derby County at Blundell Park.

It's after they kicked off their league 2 campaign with a 3-1 victory at Chesterfield.

6th August: 

Grimsby Town got the full three points on the first day of the new season yesterday.

The Mariners beat Chesterfield 3-1 with goals from Nathan Clarke, Sam Jones and Ben Davies, the latter a penalty, after the sending off of Chesterfield's Ian Evatt, late in the game.

It didn't all go Grimsby's way. They also ended the game with just ten men, after Zak Mills picked up a second yellow card in the 88th minute.
