Grimsby win but defeat for Lincoln

Grimsby Town fans are in "seventh heaven" after securing their second emphatic win in three days.

The mariners followed up their 6-1 victory at Gateshead on Saturday with a 7 nil thrashing of Alfreton at Blundell Park yesterday.

The scorers were Lennell John-Lewis and Craig Clay with two each as well as contributions from Jon Pitman, Scott Brown and Scott Neilson.

Manager Paul Hurst was delighted.

Lincoln City were a little unlucky to lose 3-2 at table toppers Halifax.

The Imps scored first through Hamza Bencherif, he was later sent off for a second bookable offence.

Ben Tomlinson secured their second but it proved to be not enough as City lost in the league for the first time this season.

Elsewhere Gainsborough Trinity won 3-1 at Guiseley, Boston United drew 1 all at Tamworth, Lincoln United went down 1 nil at home to Goole.

Brigg Town won one nil over Stocksbridge Park Steels, Grantham were 4-2 victors at Frickley, Spalding drew 1 all at Carlton and Stamford won 2-1 at home to Kings Lynn.

Scunthorpe United will be looking to find the form which beat Blackburn in the League cup tonight as they welcome former boss Nigel Adkins to Glanford Park.

The Iron are in round 2 action at home to Reading.
