UKIP members vying for chance at Sleaford and North Hykeham seat

There could be a battle on as to who'll be the UKIP candidate to stand in the forthcoming by-election.

Conservative Stephen Phillips quit as MP on Friday, over his own party's handling of Brexit.

UKIP leadership contender Suzanne Evans has said she's interesting in standing...but she could face competition from two others...among them Spilsby Councillor Victoria Ayling.

It's a crucial time for the party, with a replacement for Nigel Farage also being elected this month...

Councillor Ayling says she wants to play as active a role as possible in UKIP's future...and says a new strong leader, working on the former leaders legacy, is the way forward:

Meanwhile, Robin Hunter-Clarke...who stood for Boston and Skegness for UKIP at the last election, is also considering whether to stand in the Sleaford and North Hykeham by-election.

He says he'll make an announcement later this week.
