Number of North East Lincolnshire children at risk of abuse or neglect doubles

The number of children being declared at risk of abuse or neglect in North East Lincolnshire has almost doubled in 2 years.

There were around 664 serious child protection cases known as "Section 47s" between April 2014 and April 2015 - that's risen to 1,128 for 2016-17.

New government data highlights a record number of children are at risk. The total number of Section 47 investigations this year is 185,450.

Social workers say they're struggling to cope with demand.

Experts also warn of "generational trauma" for children not receiving proper attention, which they say in the long run will be "unaffordable".
