Hundreds of Lincolnshire drivers stranded because of the bad weather

Lincolnshire is effectively grinding to a halt tonight, with roads blocked by drifting snow and over 300 schools have already decided to stay closed tomorrow.

Up to 150 vehicles are stuck around Wainfleet - with farmers helping turn cars around because of a jack knifed lorry.

There is also around 25 HGVs stranded on the A16 at Sibsey and there are issue on the A16 at Boston.

Tonight, the Met Office is defending it's weather warning systems - after some of the heaviest snowfalls in years hit Lincolnshire.

Yesterday an amber warning was reduced to just a yellow meaning forecasters believed our area wouldn't bear the brunt of the so-called Beast from the East.

That Amber Warning itself was only re instated by the Met Office at 11 o clock this morning more than 6 hours after the heavy snow had started to fall.

By then it was too late for hundreds of drivers, trapped in their cars on the Lincoln bypass.

At one stage earlier, Police declared Lincoln a major incident and asked the Army to help as they tried to provide hot drinks for those stuck on the bypass.
