Home Office defends plans for volunteer border guards on Lincolnshire coast

Groups of volunteers could be drafted in to help patrol ports and coastlines in Lincolnshire - in what critics say are 'Dad's Army style' proposals.

The Home Office are looking at introducing a Special Volunteer Force to cover ports like Immingham, as well as landing points used by smugglers and organised criminals.

They say participants would recieve vigorous training and wouldn't have the same powers as full time Border Force officers.

Unions claim the plans 'risk the country's security'.
