On 18 June 2012, WaterAid launched The Big Dig Appeal - a unique and exciting campaign that asks your support for the rural people of Malawi by helping them get clean, safe water and sanitation.

Landlocked Malawi in southern Africa is one of the world’s poorest countries. It is estimated that 52% of the country lives below the poverty line, with the majority of people living in rural areas. The average life expectancy is just 52 years.

Water and sanitation are vital for reducing poverty.

MORE ABOUT THE BIG DIG

This summer, WaterAid wants to make a difference to the lives of thousands of people in rural Malawi and they need you to help them. And, through The Big Dig Appeal, the public’s donations can reach twice as many people!

The UK Government has pledged to match every pound donated to the appeal- making double the difference to people living without life’s basic necessities.

Through this project, WaterAid aims to change the lives of more than 134,000 people in rural Malawi.
